Selection Process : SSC CGL Examination 2026
The SSC CGL 2026 selection process is a streamlined, two-stage system consisting entirely of objective, online Computer-Based Tests (CBT). There are no interviews or descriptive pen-and-paper exams
Stage 1: Tier-I Exam (Qualifying Only):
- Mode: Online (CBT) | Total Duration: 60 Minutes (1 hour)
- Question Type: 100 Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs) for a total of 200 marks.
- Sectional Timing: Introduces an explicit 15-minute sectional timer for each subject.
- Negative Marking: 0.50 marks deducted for every incorrect answer.
Stage 2: Tier-II Exam (Merit-Deciding):
- Paper-I: Mandatory for all posts. It is conducted in two sessions on the exact same day.
- Paper-II (Statistics): Only mandatory for candidates applying for the Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) or Statistical Investigator Grade-II positions. (Note: The separate Finance & Economics Paper-III for AAO roles has been officially discontinued for the 2026 cycle).
Stage 3: Document Verification (DV) & Final Merit List:
- Post Preferences: Candidates submit their final choices online for the specific departments and roles they want based on their tentative performance.
- Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates must present their original educational degrees, identity proofs, and category certificates (SC/ST/OBC/EWS) directly to their respective alloted ministries or departments.
- Tie-Breaking: If two candidates secure equal marks in Tier-II, the tie is broken based on higher marks in Section-I of Paper-I, followed by Section-II, date of birth (older candidates preferred), and alphabetical order of names.
